Smoking cannabis raises the risk of developing head and neck cancers.

A recent study published in the (JAMA) Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, analyzed millions of medical records of individuals who used cannabis daily for years and concluded this habit may raise the overall risk of head and neck cancers. The use of cannabis by individuals that have a cannabis use disorder are more likely to develop head and neck cancers, compared to individuals that do not use cannabis.

Further research needs to be completed to understand the long-term impact of cannabis use and the development of cancer.

The Youth Resiliency Summit is open to all high sc

The Youth Resiliency Summit is open to all high school students residing or attending school in Solano and Napa Counties.

ALL STUDENTS who attend the full conference will receive a certificate of completion for 5 hours of service, please check with your school and/or teachers to confirm this can be used for community service credit or extra credit.

Workshops will cover a wide range of topics affecting youth and their community as well as develop skills that strengthen resilience and create positive change.
The summit will also host fun activities, raffles, prizes, and more!

E-cigarettes, also known as e-cigs, vape, vape pens, and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), are very popular among youth and young adults. In 2023, the United States had 2.1 million youth who were vapers. More than 10% of high school and 4.6% of middle school students currently vape.

According to the American Lung Association (ALA), the most frequent reason why youth use e-cigarettes is vaping by a “friend or family member” (39 percent), and nearly (31 percent) like that these products are available in flavors like mint, fruit, candy or chocolate.

Harmful ingredients and chemicals are in vaping products and youth should not be exposed to this dangerous addictive product.

Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian Am

Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California, after Latinas/os and African Americans. The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States, which occurred on October 18, 1587, when “Luzones Indios” came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay, California. In 2009, the U.S. Congress recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the United States.

Today, Filipino Americans are an integral part of the fabric of America. They have contributed to the development of the nation from industry to education, government, and the armed forces, Filipinos infused their heritage with that of the American Dream.
